Tax Alert: Maryland Property Tax Assessments
Maryland provides a property tax assessment every three years. Each county is divided into three regions and the state will reassess your region every three years. If your region of the county is being reassessed, you will receive a letter late in December with your new property tax assessment for the current property tax year and the next 2 years.
Your home's fair market value is not the same as the tax assessment. If you noticed your taxes went up dramatically, you can appeal your property tax assessment.
If your home is your primary residence, you can apply for the MD Homestead Property Tax Credit to mitigate the tax increase via a credit. If you haven't yet applied for the Homestead Tax Credit, apply online today! They will keep your application on file.
