The Decluttering Tips I Stole from a Pro | Increasing Home Comfort while Saving Money | Preparing for the Worst

by Jen Ward

You can tell it's January in Baltimore. Hello, freezing temperatures and snow! I don't think we'll be ice skating on the Chesapeake Bay, but it is cold. I hope you've been staying safe and warm indoors enjoying some relaxing activities at home. Or, if you're like me, being at home has made you notice all the clutter you've meant to sort through and the home tasks you've been putting off... In that case, I've included a few articles with tips to help you declutter and better insulate your home.

As we enter a new year, I'd like to encourage you to think of writing a will. I work with clients who are responsible for selling a loved one's home after they have died. It can be challenging for the Personal Representatives as they are responsible for going through paperwork, financials, personal and real property (real estate) while mourning. It's a tough process, but it is much easier when there is a will. Why? A will helps your loved ones avoid going through months of bureaucratic process with the local court system in order to have a stranger (i.e., a judge) ultimately decide how to handle your assets after you have passed. Having a will directs loved ones on how to handle your personal affairs, thus relieving your loved ones -- or a judge -- from making those decisions. This is especially important when you own real estate. If you need guidance on a will or estate planning, please ask me for a recommendation. I wish you and your loved ones long, healthy lives.

Here's to a happy and comfortable winter!
