How to Deal with a Water Emergency | Are You Ready for the Changes on Maryland Roads? | Don't Dump This in the Drain | Winterize Your Garden

by Jen Ward

Has your house ever flooded? We accidentally flooded our laundry room recently and ended up having a not-so-relaxing Sunday dealing with the soggy fallout. When we discovered the flooding, we scrambled to find the wet-dry vac and old towels. Once we had those in hand, we spent the rest of the day removing wet stuff, vacuuming up water, and cleaning the laundry room. Check out the article below for some advice on what to do if your house floods.

Afterward, while taking a moment to rest from our labors, we realized that during an emergency is not the time to start figuring out where things are. We needed to get organized so we could be better prepared for the next minor (or major) disaster. It was a little annoying to spend hours doing something we had not planned to tackle; however, when we finished, we felt ready to address any future house mishaps (plus our laundry room was super spacious and clean!). If you don't know where your things are, now's a great time to get organized.

Did you know Maryland is one of the states with the highest number of taxpayers itemizing deductions? As you start preparing for the end of the year and your 2025 taxes, stay tuned on the state and local tax (SALT) deduction. It never hurts to start preparing for tax time and look at potential deductions.

In other Maryland news, speed camera fines have increased since October 1. So save yourself some money by easing up on the gas. See the article below for more info on changes to MD vehicle-related laws.

Reminder: As temperatures drop below freezing, don't forget to remove garden hoses from outdoor hose bibs/spiggots and turn off the water to the hose bib from the inside. This will prevent freezing pipes.
