Did you know you can reduce the increase of the property tax assessment on your property if your home is your primary residence?

Have you filled out your Maryland Homestead Tax Credit application? If your home is your primary residence (meaning this is the primary property you live in in Maryland), you can apply for the homestead tax credit which limits the increase of your property tax assessment. You can check to see if you have filed the application, and you can fill out your homestead tax credit application by visiting https://dat.maryland.gov/realproperty/Pages/Maryland-Homestead-Tax-Credit.aspx. If you are not eligible for the homestead tax credit because you just bought the house, go ahead and fill out the application and it will go in effect once you are eligible. Tax assessments were on the rise since the pandemic with the rise in housing prices. As a primary residence or owner occupant, this tax credit is a benefit for homeowners.
